Bartók Pizz

A Bartók pizzicato on the harp is produced slightly differently from a Bartók pizz on other string instruments but the resulting sound is similar.

Production

The finger plucks the string close to the sound board and then immediately slides off the string to hit the sound board.

Sound

A sharp knocking sound is heard in addition to the pitch of the string.

Notation

The Bartók pizz sign is added above or below the note.

Bartók pizzicato

Bartók pizzicato.

Range

The Bartók pizzicato can easily be played with either hand within the range of the right hand. To play Bartók pizzicato below the great octave G the harpist has to bend forward to reach the low end of the strings and thereby restricts the movements of the right hand.
