Tap strings
Production
The harpist taps (hits) the string with the fingertip.
Sound
Tapping or hitting a string with the fingertip produces a slight percussive sound with an soft echo of the pitch of the string.
Notation
Since the resulting pitch is only vaguely distinguishable, a square-shaped notehead should be used to indicate what strings are tapped. This notation must be paired with a verbal indication such as tap strings.
Range
The whole harp.
