Xylharmonics
Xylharmonics are muted harmonics.
Production
Xylharmonics are produced in the same way as harmonics. The stopping finger (or part of the hand), however, is left on the string, thus muting it. The harmonic note sounds (octave, twelfth et.c.) but does not resonate.
Another way to produce xylharmonics is to place one finger or the side of the hand (palm facing upwards) at the exact middle (or 2/3, 3/4, 4/5 point) of the strings thus muting them, and then playing the upper half of the strings with the other hand. This technique is good when many xylharmonics are played one after another or if a xylharmonic glissando is desired.
Sound
Xylharmonics are harmonics that sound muted and percussive.
Notation
Xylharmonics are notated by combining a normal harmonic symbol with a muted symbol..
Range
The range is the same as the range for normal harmonics.
